Milton Keynes Storm Under 18s (Division 2)
Result: 16th March 2008. MK Storm 16 v Streatham 0
(5-0, 4-0, 7-0)
Milton Keynes completed their regular season fixtures with the demolition of a threadbare Streatham side. MK now stand top of the league, and although Invicta are likely to overtake them with their final match also against Streatham, MK are guaranteed a promotion play-off chance at the very least.
Milton Keynes made short work of the visiting team, scoring their first goal in 13 seconds, and continually threatening the Streatham nets. For their part, Streatham barely registered an attack of note, and by the middle of the second period neither side bothered to play much hockey, preferring instead to knock lumps out of one another. With play-offs around the corner, the MK coaches must be disappointed by the match bans collected by Harry Bowers and Jacob Heron. More encouragingly, when MK did play some hockey, goals came from all lines and players.
Highlight of the match, without a shadow of a doubt, was the goal scored by Man of the Match, Graeme Casey. It was his first competitive goal for the club in his final regular season fixture as a junior, and this popular teammate thoroughly earned his standing ovation.
MK will have to wait until late April to learn their fate, but it looks likely that they will face Basingstoke in their promotion play-off, a side they know well from a number of close fought encounters in past seasons. Promotion is definitely no formality, but if MK continue to play with the same spirit and energy they have shown since Christmas, then they must be favourites to succeed.
