Milton Keynes Storm Under 16s (Division 1)

 Result:              16th September 2007. MK Storm 7 v Invicta Dynamos 2

(3-0, 1-0, 3-2)

Milton Keynes brushed aside newly promoted Invicta to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Starting the match with positive intent, MK threatened the Invicta nets from the outset, but needless penalties blunted their cutting edge, and allowed the visitors a chance to settle in their first match in the top league. Jake Scriven saved well to keep the scores level, but with Invicta conceding penalties of their own, MK quickly moved through their attacking gears. On the powerplay, Glen Trivett cleared his defensive zone via Andy Major, and Josh Nicklin (07:32) weaved through the Invicta defence to score neatly in front. Invicta continued to attack but Scriven had all the early answers, and MK launched a concerted attack on the Invicta goal. Trivett fed Nicklin, and Ross Tippett (11:45) hammered his rebounded shot home on the line. MK effectively ended the match as a contest in the next shift when a Harry Bowers shot from the blue line was delicately deflected into the net on the volley by the predatory Trivett (12:15).

MK continued to attack in the second period and every line threatened to score. Finally the match was put beyond any doubt when good work by Josh Burgess and Andy Major gave Nicklin (27:36) the chance to surge through the Invicta defence and score the only goal of the period.

The final period had MK icing every different line combination imaginable, and Invicta profited from some MK dithering for a breakaway goal (33:50). MK would not be outdone and when Nicklin did everything but score in front of the Invicta net, Nidal Philips (35:06) was on hand to smash home his first of the season. MK stretched further ahead when Trivett's huge saucer pass from defence was skilfully controlled and converted at speed by Jacob Heron (37:29). Heron (38:48) completed the MK scoring with an excellent finish from Cameron Green and Andre Dahlgren, and although the visitors snatched a late consolation (40:27), the result was never in any doubt.

Much is expected of MK this season, and no doubt they will face tougher opposition, but all they can do is beat what is put in front of them, and this they did with ease.
