Milton Keynes Storm Under 16s (Division 1)
Result: 1st March 2008. Haringey Whippets 0 v. MK Storm 9
(0-2, 0-3, 0-4)
Milton Keynes swept aside struggling Haringey in the first leg of a weekend double header.
MK started confidently, and when Glen Trivett cleared his lines, Josh Nicklin drove the net for David Carson (02:07) to finish neatly on the rebound. MK continued to press, rarely leaving the Haringey defensive zone, and after one particularly lengthy offensive movement Josh Burgess (07:02) found the back of the net through a crowded goalmouth. Haringey barely registered an attack, and only the acrobatics of their netminder Tipple kept them in with a chance.
The second period saw a brief change in Haringey's fortunes, and with MK slow to pick up the pace, Jake Scriven was finally tested in the MK nets. Later in the period, MK increased their workrate and when Ross Green roared out of defence, Nicklin (26:11) finished his pass at the second attempt in front of goal. Moments later Green set up Nicklin (27:48) again, and from the ensuing face off Andy Major and Tom M'boya found Jacob Heron (27:57) in front.
With the match finished as contest, MK let their discipline slip, but it did not stop them scoring. Despite conceding a double penalty, Trivett (31:44) won a face-off in his own defensive zone, and weaved through the entire Haringey side to finish sweetly in front. Nicklin (37:33) completed his hattrick with a relentless drive and finish through the middle of the Haringey defence. MK continued to press and when Trivett found Nicklin in the corner his determined charge and faked shot left Cameron Green (41:00) clear to score. Ross Green (42:46) closed the match with a fabulous single-handed effort, skating the length of the ice to finish smartly.
