Milton Keynes plummeted to their heaviest defeat in several seasons against a formidable Guildford unit, who now replace MK at the top of the league. In past seasons, matches between these two sides have been impossibly close, but an influx of top players from other clubs has added greatly to Guildford' s firepower. To compete against such a unit, MK needed to play their most spirited and disciplined hockey, but in truth they faded away as a competitive outfit almost as soon as they went behind.

Guildford must be strong favourites to win the league this year, but if MK want to join them in the National Championships in the spring, they will need to raise their tempo and teamwork throughout the remainder of the season. A fixture against a resurgent Bracknell side in a fortnight would be a good place to start.
