Milton Keynes Storm Under 16s (Division 1)

Result:             23rd February 2008. Bracknell Stingers 4 v. MK Storm 2

(0-1, 1-1, 3-0)

Milton Keynes waved farewell to any lingering hopes of a place in the National Championships with a feeble display at mid-table Bracknell.

MK had started the match confidently, and when the Bracknell net minder spilled Glen Trivett's slapshot, Jacob Heron (06:57) was quickly onto the rebound in front of goal. When Josh Burgess (19:00) showed great tenacity to score single-handed early in the second period, Milton Keynes looked sure to leave Bracknell in their wake. But over-confidence and a general refusal to work on the basics of skating and passing, let them down terribly. Once Bracknell equalised on the power play (23:10), the balance of play shifted noticeably, and MK were lucky to keep their slender lead into the final period. Had they lifted themselves after the break, then they might well have gone on to victory, but if anything they deteriorated, and Bracknell scored three answered goals (30:35, 37:33 & 41:45) to record a smooth and well-deserved victory.

This lacklustre performance leaves MK well adrift in the league standings, and unless results favour them in the remaining matches of the season, they could find themselves only 5th in the final table.
