Storm opened the second period with plenty of intent and for several shifts kept Swindon pinned down in their own end. There were few whistles to stop the game so most changes were on the fly and during one of these Mat Clement stepped on the ice and straightaway picked up the puck on the left wing. He then put in a good cross to the far post for David Carson to tip in the goal at 20.42. Unfortunately the 1-1 score line did not last long because just over a minute later at 21.53 Swindon scored to go 2-1 up. The goal came from a weak defensive clearance straight to a Swindon player. The rest of the period was tight and a few cracks began to appear in the Storm defence with more opportunities to score falling to Swindon. Despite the increasing pressure Storm finished the second period just one goal down.
The final period saw Storm start strongly again and apply lots of pressure to the Swindon defence. The reward came at 38.45 when Tom Mboya finished a great period of attacking pressure with a backhanded shot from a David Carson pass. This made the score 2-2 with just over 6 minutes to go. A harsh interference call on David Carson at 40.27 gave Swindon a power play and they capitalised on it almost immediately. From the re-start face-off the puck fell perfectly to the unmarked Floyd Taylor who then executed the perfect shot high to the left to give Swindon a 3-2 lead. Storm responded to this setback by attacking even more aggressively and created a number of scoring chances but none would go in. With just over a minute left Storm pulled their net minder and then had 50 seconds of solid pressure and three decent shots but alas none went in and with 17 seconds left the puck sprang loose and Swindon scored an empty net goal to seal the game.
Despite the loss this was a great team performance with good play and great spirit from all players. If Storm could have sustained their best moments for the whole game then Swindon would have been the losing side.
