Milton Keynes Storm Under 14s (Division 1)

 Result:              24th February 2008. M K Storm 5 v. Peterborough 3

Storm faced a tricky fixture against Peterborough with two senior defence men missing and one or two returnees from skiing, boarding and other Alpine pastimes who could be a little jet-lagged.  The remaining crew put together a competent performance but with little margin for error.

Period 1 saw the, now customary, Storm opening of a good start followed by conceding the first goal!  The Peterborough score at 6.44 seemed to be against the run of play and it stimulated Storm into greater efforts.  The equalising score came at 12.59 after a great power-play build up involving Ross Tippet and Nathan Carmichael before Tom Mboya scored.  The first period ended 1-1 and the penalty count was 6 minutes each in game which was becoming increasingly physical.

The second period saw a more settled Storm side take firm control of the game and despite a further three penalties for each side the period flowed reasonably well .  The second Storm goal was scored by the 'on fire' partnership of Ross Tippet with an assist from Tom Mboya (19.56).    Straight from the restart Storm attacked through David Carson who was past the last defender when he was tripped.  The Ref called the penalty but allowed play to continue enabling Matt Clement to score from close range as the puck bobbled loose (21.00).

The final period was rather scrappier.  Storm started brightly and extended the lead to 4-1 through a second Tom Mboya goal with assists from Ross Tippet and Fraser Green (37.06).  Storm conceded a penalty and let the momentum swing towards Peterborough.  Despite successfully killing the penalty Storm conceded a second after full strength was restored.  A further moment of doziness allowed Peterborough further hope as they scored virtually straight from the face-off making the score 4-3.  Storm responded with extra pressure and made several good chances.  With 30 seconds left to play Peterborough pulled their net minder in an attempt to gain the equalizer, but the plan backfired within four seconds as David Carson picked up a loose puck in centre ice and scored an empty net goal with a nonchalant backhanded push.
