Storm entertained with a display of good hockey against a spirited short-benched Invicta. The early pressure came from Storm with the first three shifts all going close to scoring. It was a little surprising to have Invicta open the scoring with a long range shot (3.29) the first time they entered the MK defensive zone. Un-phased by this setback Storm worked hard and were rewarded with their fist goal at 4.35 from Tom Mboya with an assist from Nathan Carmichael. A few minutes late it was Nathan who scored after a period of pressure with an assist from Keegan Starkey (7.36). In the next Shift Jordan Vincent picked up the puck on his own blue line and passed 3 Invicta players before scoring with a shot high to the left (8.08). Storm were on a roll now and Tom Mboya scored at 9.05 to put Storm firmly in control. A little reality check followed at 9.39 when Invicta scored with a second long range effort but the period finished sweetly when Ben Russell hit a firm shot which deflected high into the net following a pass from Nathan Carmichael(14.05). The period finished 5-2.
The second period turned into the Nathan Carmichael show! Storm had relentless pressure and won the period 4-0 with three goals from Nathan Carmichael and a breakaway goal for Ross Tippet. Nathan Carmichael and Dylan Pasqua created many fine scoring opportunities with their slick passing and enthusiasm to occupy the right spaces.
Invicta began to get frustrated in the third period and picked up 4 penalties for a variety of offences including a bizarre too-many-men call which started with a roughing penalty and then during a line change 5 came out to replace the 4 on ice with 30 seconds left on the penalty. After some gentle reminders from the bench the Ref noticed and called the penalty for too many men but then seemed happy to continue with 4 Invicta players despite the fact they should only now have 3 on the ice! A little more discussion and the situation was resolved. Invicta notched up two goal in the third period and Storm a further 4. Tom Mboya scored two and there was one each for Ben Russell and Jordan Vincent.
The shot count in the game was MK 58 and Invicta 10. All three Storm lines played hard and fast to make sure the result was an emphatic win.
