Storm Under 14s (Division 1)
Result: 6th January 2008. M
K Storm 5 v. Harringey 3
Short-benched MK Storm U14 beat Haringey in a competitive game.
MK Storm U14 took the points in a well contested game with two first line regulars out through injury (Tom Mboya) and suspension (Ross Tippet).
The game started brightly with David Carson hitting the pipe work in the first attack of the game. An early penalty (2.31) against Sam Cotter took a little momentum out of the start and this was compounded towards the end of the two minutes when Ben Russell picked up a further penalty. Fortunately Storm successfully defended 3 on 5 for 18 seconds and then saw off the remaining 2 minute penalty. The enforced rest for Russell had a beneficial effect because 30 seconds after returning to the ice he picked up the puck on his own blue line skated past a couple of defenders and the slotted home the opening goal (6.49). A few minutes later David Carson popped up to put away rebound from a Dylan Pasqua shot to make it 2-0 (9.49). Haringey s main opportunities were coming from breakaways which for the most part Storm covered. Robert Pullar picked up a 2 minute tripping penalty (12.36) when one such breakaway was in progress but Storm saw of the penalty with no score.
In the second period Storm started well enough with a neat goal from Mathew Clement assisted by Jordan Vincent and Fraser Green but short after they went seriously off the boil! A series of sloppy shifts let Haringey back into the game as they scored at 24.00 and 29.23. It could have been worse but for some sterling work by Sophie Savill bringing off several good stops.
A much more disciplined Storm returned for the third period and showed greater discipline and organisation. In their second shift of the period line 2 scored a short range goal through Mathew Clement again assisted by Fraser Green. David Carson, by now feeling the effects of jet lag, put together a breakaway to score the fifth at 35.52 and make the game pretty much safe. Some good team defending kept Haringey at bay limiting them to 5 shots in the third period. The main threats from the good skaters and fast hands of the two Haringey centres were being neutralised by good checking and harrying by the first fore checker allowing a team-mate to mop up.
Shots on goal were 6-9-5 for Sophie and 8-9-9 for Haringey."
