Milton Keynes Storm Under 14s (Division 1)

 Result:             17th November 2007. Romford 3 v. M K Storm 3

MK Storm U14 played an exceptional game of hockey at Romford to come away with a point.   The game started at a frenetic pace with both teams creating chances.    Storm were well organised in defence and attack producing some fluent passing moves using their breakouts.  Despite knowing the danger from Romford at Offensive face offs at 7.25 Storm failed to close down Courtney grant and he scored with a powerful slap shot.  At 9.05 he produced a carbon copy making it 2-0 to Romford.  This seemed to inspire Storm to greater effort with David Carson going close to scoring.  The period ended 2-0 to Romford but with Storm feeling well in the game.

The second period started with a fantastic opening minute form Storm.  38 seconds in to the period Storm scored with a goal bundled in by Ross Tippet after some great work in front of the net by Tom Mboya.   There was a moment of doubt over whether the goal would stand as it appeared the Ref had blown his whistle before the puck crossed the line.  However the goal stood – we can only assume he was anticipating the goal(!?).   Line 2 trooped out for the re-start and strait from the face-off David Carson worked a good position for Nathan Carmichael to score the equaliser at 20.50.  The game continued to flow from end to end and Storm showed increasing belief in their ability to compete with Romford.  Despite being short handed Storm attacked the Romford goal and after a goal mouth melee, which saw the net minder committed on the floor,  the puck flew free to Ross Tippet in the high forward position with time to blast in a slap shot allowing Storm to take the lead at 27.04.

The next 8 minutes were even between the teams with both teams creating scoring chances.  Fraser Green, Jordan Vincent and Robert Pullar put in some committed and strong defensive work to ensure Romford could not develop any sustained pressure. It was a surprise when Romford score their third at 35.36 because Storm had had them penned in their own defensive zone for considerable periods. At 3-3 the last 4 and half minutes were very tense indeed.  Storm rose to the challenge and looked to be edging the play with Romford defending desperately to hang on for a point.

The shot count was pretty even at 18 on Romford and 21 on Storm.

All round a great team performance with good play and great spirit all players.
