Storm Under 14s (Division 1)
Result: 24th November 2007. Bracknell 3 v. M
K Storm 4
This fixture was full of incident and excitement. The omens were not too good before face-off as around 100 ice dancers turned up in costume to practice Peter Pan thinking they had the ice. After fighting through various crocodiles and lost boys to get to the bench Storm waited whilst the ice dispute was settled. Even though the dancers had the power of magic on their side the confusion was settled in favour of the hockey match. To show some willing the game was changed from 3 x15 to 2 x20 and about 10 minutes late the game started and the pantomime crowd gazed on in full dress.
Unfortunately for Storm they seemed to think they were in a pantomime too! Despite a promising opening 5 minutes, with some good moves they could not capitalise on the many re-bounds which the
Bracknell
net minder offered up.
Bracknell
capitalised on Storm s growing frustration scoring at 5.07 and 13.41. Storm found it hard to get a rhythm going and looked uncomfortable for the second half of the period. The period score was 2-0 to
Bracknell
.
Not wishing to be left out of the pantomime the Storm supporters joined in with some audience participation what else would you expect at a hockey match? Unfortunately the villain of the show (did Captain Hook have a whistle?) took exception to some good natured advice from the crowd (sure she said BEHIND YOU!) and demanded a dismissal from the crowd.
This was the turning point for Storm. Now truly fired up they attacked with speed, passion and commitment scoring goals at 27.20, (
Carson
) and 32.12 (Vincent).
Bracknell
then got a third at 35.46. And it was at 3-2 to them the villain in black played another dastardly trick awarding a penalty shot for an undefined offence (no appearance on the game sheet!).
Sophie Savill took on the role of leading boy for her solo performance and brought the (remaining) Storm supporters to their feet with a comfortable save from the penalty shot - (OH YES SHE DID!!). The momentum was still with Storm however and at 38.23 Tippet levelled the scores at 3-3. With a generous 1.10 left to go in the match
Carson
scored the winner. The remaining time was then played out comfortably to give Storm a precious win.
The Storm players and supporters then went home for tea and all lived happily ever after.
