Milton Keynes Storm Under 14s (Division 1)

 Result:              20th January 2008. Basingstoke 3 v M.K.Storm 7

Storm U14 travelled to Basingstoke on Sunday in high spirits looking forward to the game.  All was going well in the preparation until it became clear that the away shirts were still residing in Buckinghamshire!  Some quick planning resulted in a mercy dash to collect the shirts by Julian Pasqua.  In the meantime a contingency was being hatched at Basingstoke which involved using the spare away strip from the Basingstoke locker.  As it turned out we had to use this unfamiliar strip because  despite melting his engine the MK shirts only arrive half way through the first period.

There could have been a little gamesmanship at work form Basingstoke because as Storm pulled on the borrowed shirts it became clear that either Basingstoke kids don t grow very quickly or we were borrowing the under 10 strip!  Having checked that it was possible to move in the shirts Storm took to the ice and quickly scored an opener through David Carson assisted by Nathan Carmichael. Unfortunately Basingstoke replied equally quickly!   The quick response did not ruffle Storm and they soon settled into a good pattern of play dominating possession with all three lines.  The second goal saw a role reversal with Carmichael fining the move from a Carson pass (2.33) and then at 9.16 Carson again was provider but this time for Mat Clement to push home from short range.  Storm relaxed a little too much and conceded at the end of the first to make it 3-2 at the break.

The second period followed much the same pattern as the first with Storm striking three times and only conceding once.  Dylan Pasqua scored to finish a neat passing move involving line mates Carson and Carmichael (20.06) and the same trio popped up to deliver the next goal but this Carmichael scored.   Several time in the second period Storm defence men found themselves ahead of their forwards and Ben Russell went close with a good effort but at  22.14 Robert Pullar slid home from short range his first goal of the season following a goal mouth melee.  The period finished 6-3.

The final period was spoilt by some strong arm tactics by Basingstoke as their frustration grew.  Fraser Green received a solid check from the biggest opposition player and when he returned the complement (legally) a few seconds later he found himself on the end of a nasty check to the head which resulted in a 2+10 for them.  Despite further provocation Storm players all kept their cool and allowed the referee to make the decisions.  The play was still positive from Storm but scoring proved harder.  The last goal was scored by Sam Cotter (first of the season) when he received a pass from Jordan Vincent and calmly scored from short range.

We may look better in black but we can still play pretty well in green and white!!
