The under 12's were finally on the last leg of the 5 games in 5 weeks stint. Today we were away against Swindon and as this was a Sunday fixture it meant at least we had an extra day off.
Swindon
had won 3 and lost 3 and had only lost to
Guildford
at home so another good test.
Well it proved to be another tough match with a very even first two periods. MK started well with Macauley neatly dispatching Matts pass on
.
Swindon
were back quickly though and both Callum and Garth were soon in the thick of it and defending well. The Jaguars soon found a way through however and equalized on
. They went searching for the lead but first Ashley and then Jack denied them. Macca broke away and returned the favour to Matt who buried number 2. The game ebbed and flowed for 5 minutes while both sides tried to gain the initiative.
Swindon
attacked, Thomas broke it up, Emma slipped a lovely pass to Ryan who moved in on the net but was blocked,
Jordan
is suddenly facing a one a one but comes up big and saves and then Macca surges through bit shoots over. Then Thomas finds Macca who touches it on to Matt, Matt cuts to the wing beats a man and sends across a lovely center but no-one can quite get on the end of it. On the line change Ryan and Dougie continue the attack down the right, when the puck comes free Luc tucks it away top corner, 3-1. Swindon counter but Jack clears the lines, MK incur a penalty and Swindon come again, Jordan saves on the next attack but cannot hang on to it and the rebound is put away, 3-2. The Jaguar’s tails are up and MK end the period on the back foot, Callum gets a stick in to stop one attack,
Jordan
saves one and Jack makes a great tackle chasing back.
The second period starts in the same vein with the cats determined to get level. MK fall foul of the ref and end up with two men in the bin. Strong defence from Dougie and a terrific chase back by Ryan keep MK's lead. They can't hang on though, the equalizer comes and one man is released. They do survive the 5 on 4 as more solid D clears the lines. Thomas finds Emma who pushes it out to Ryan on the right, Ryan cuts inside but sees his shot saved. Moments later Macca see Emma in space and set here free, she makes no mistake, 4-3. Another Pen and another PowerPlay goal lets Swindon get level again. MK up the ante, Ryan burst through but shoots wide, Garth shoots wide and then Matt hits the post. The Jaguars respond but Thomas and Jack see off any threat. Jordan saves and sets Emma away, her shot is also saved and the period looks like ending with the scores all square. Matt has other ideas though and a solo, end to end skate with a high finish gives MK a 5-4 lead.
A stunning opening three minutes of the final period sees MK extend their lead to three. First Ryan hits a long shot from just inside half way and it somehow squeezes under the minder, 6-4. Then a minute later Ryan feeds Matt and he completes his hat trick, 7-4. Luc then has the puck in the net but the ref washes it out, not entirely sure why??
Swindon
get one back, 7-5 but then run into their own penalty trouble. Ashley makes them pay unassisted 8-5. Things calm down for 90 seconds then
Swindon
get another back. The game finally has a quiet few minutes and both teams take stock. Soon though Emma and Ryan mount a good attack and find Matt, his shot hits the keeper. Luc Ryan and Emma try again and Luz slips the puck nicely across to Macca and its 9-6 with just over 5 minutes to go. MK relax but still look in control when Swindon get another MK do the same, this time Ryan finishing top corner and the final score is 10-7.
A good determined win against good opposition, especially after last week. We have a month off now then it's Romford again but this time on home soil.
