Milton Keynes Storm Under 12's

Today was the return fixture after last months defeat in Essex. So hopefully the Storm would be up for some revenge. Romford however have only lost to Guildford and Bracknell so this would be no easy ride.

After an even start MK picked up an early penalty, but it was they who looked more like scoring in the first minute though as Matt and Macca tested the keeper. Jordan did make one save and Luc broke away after a pass up field from Thomas but was stopped. Then a little later Matt danced through several Raptors but couldn't get a shot away. Luc and Emma worked well in mid ice but Romford's defence was holding strong. Matt did finally break through on 13 minutes and gave the keeper no chance with a shot top right, 1-0. Unfortunately all this good work was soon undone as MK conceded a penalty and within 20 seconds Romford were level. A shot from Luc almost put MK back ahead before the break but the keeper saved well and the period ended one a piece.

Storm started the second period on top and looked to re-gain the lead. Matt again found Macca but his shot was saved. Then Ryan collected the puck in the MK end and moved down the wing, slipped it to Matt and once again it was saved. MK tried again and pressed forward but then left exposed at the back. A Romford forward was suddenly one on one with Jordan but J make a great double save to keep the scores level. Now it was MK's turn to defend as Romford sensed their chance. Solid D from Douglas, Callum and Macca saw off the initial threat then more good work from Thomas, Garth and a save from Jordan eased the pressure. Callum then found Matthew; he turned passed a defender and fed Macca but his shot was also saved. Emma tackled well on the blue line and crossed to Luc, he was stopped but Jonathan won it back and found Emma, she moved forward and fired on goal but this too was turned away. Just when MK seemed to have settled for a goalless period Romford broke free and netted their second, 1-2.

Buoyed by the late go-ahead goal, Romford started the third in full flow and MK were quickly under the cosh. More excellent defending from Thomas, Callum and Garth seemed to have steadied things but Jordan was soon called into action again to divert a shot. Matt did break through on a rare attack but his shot flew over the bar. When MK conceded another Pen, Romford soon notched another for 1-3 lead. Jonathan and Ashley took to the ice and within a minute they had fashioned a chance. Ashley supplied Jonathan and he tucked the puck across the minder to make it 2-3. There were still 8 minutes to play but Romford concentrated on defence and the chances were few and far between. Luc did get on a nice break but he could not engineer a shot. Matt was called for a late penalty but moments later so were Romford, the coach pulled Jordan right near the end but Romford re-gained the puck and closed out the game.

Not our best performance but maybe Romford have our measure this season. Still we can't dwell on this defeat we have the champions elect in back to back games over the next couple of weeks. Bring them on!!
