Milton Keynes Storm Under 12's

MK Storm start season with good win

After what seemed a long summer (well the weather didn't help), MK Storm U12 were finally back on ice. This season was a much changed team with only 6 of last season's regulars still here. The good news however was we did have a great bunch of U10's coming through and they were champing at the bit. Our opponents today were our old friends at Peterborough whom we usually have good tussles with.

Well MK were straight on the attack but the Potty's fought back well. Matthew went on a great run found Emma and her shot hit the keeper's helmet. Jack and Thomas were then active in defence both clearing the blue line. Then on 7 minutes Will was called for checking and with 30 seconds to go Peterborough opened the scoring, 0-1. MK upped the ante and poured forward, Macca hit a shot wide and then Ryan followed suit. Peterborough were not done though and they too pressed forward but first Garth intercepted well and then Ryan made a great block to prevent a chance and Jonathan cleared up. Ryan was then called for interference so MK were shorthanded again. This time however MK took the game to Peterborough and never looked troubled. In fact a great pass from Matt to Macca almost gave us the equalizer but the shot was blocked. Then when Peterborough fell foul of too many men MK finally got their equalizer. A lovely through pass from Ryan set Luc on his way and his finished well, 1-1.

The second period was outstanding from MK and started with a goal. Matt and Macca move quickly forward and found Will. When his first effort was blocked he picked it up and buried it 2-1. A minute later Macca was called for x-checking but again MK's short handed unit came up trumps. First Matt charged down the wing and hit a lovely cross but no-one could get on the end it. Then Matt charge through the middle beating two men and then found Will who finished top shelf, 3-1. Peterborough did get a second 2 minutes later but the surge was with MK. Although Peterborough did not think so and soon had a 1 on 1 with Jordan but J came up trumps and saved well. Two minutes later when the junior Phantoms were in penalty trouble it was soon 4-2, this time Will finding Matt. And another crisp finish. Storm continued pounding the goal though Douglas set up Ryan and a crisp pass from Ryan to Emma almost claimed the 5th but Emma's shot was blocked. Callum then made a great stop in D to prevent a chance and Jordan came out well to stop another. Annoyed by their lack of goals Peterborough got into more penalty trouble. A lovely move up ice from Ryan to Macca and onto Will finished with Will netting his third for 5-2. Ninety seconds later a great solo effort from Matt notches number 6 and another eighty seconds time its number 7. This time Ryan finding Emma and Emma making no mistake.

The third period MK shut up shop, although they allowed Peterborough one back that was all they ever looked like getting with Jordan in great form and the final score was 7-3. Luc did see a nice shot saved and even Thomas got a late shot in but that too was saved. A great start to the new season and the team gelled well. PowerPlays were good and the shorthanded teams also played well. Congrats to Ryan, Luc and Emma for their first points at U12 level may there be many more.
