Storm Under 12's
MK Storm get their first point of the year
Well MK were straight on the attack with Macca and Matthew coasting down the ice. Matthew shot but the keeper saved. Cardiff respond well though and on 01:25 its 0-1. MK try to respond and Garth does well to keep the attack going but Cardiff break again and suddenly its 0-2. A stunned crowd (well about 15 were stunned, the other 15 or so elated) wandered what would happen next. MK were back on the offensive, Macca had a shot saved and then went on a great solo break, before again seeing his shot turned away. Finally Macca did find Matthew and he tucked it home 1-2. Storm continue the pressure and in less than a minute it was 2-2, this time Ryan supplying the pass for Matthew. Emma and Luc build an attack both battling well to keep the puck away from Cardiff. Jonathan tackles well in mid ice to keep an attack going and feeds Luc. He is stopped and Cardiff break again but superb defence from Ryan prevents a chance. Macca breaks up Ice and shoots but the puck sails wide. With the period coming to a close Matthew goes a solo surge finishing high and wide of the keeper 3-2. Emma and Jack mop up Cardiff s final attack of the period and MK go to the break with a lead.
The second period starts with a nice early move from Thomas clearing up the wing to Matthew and Matthew crossing to Macca but his effort is charged down by the defence. Moments later Macca gets a shot in but it s saved. Garth breaks up an attack, finds Matthew and when he is stopped Cardiff look for the equalizer but Jordan saves well. Ryan probing forward for a goal is caught out of position but chases back superbly to prevent a shot. Luc skates past one and slips it to Emma but her shot is saved, then Douglas finds Macca but again the minder saves. Cardiff attack with renew vigour and on 20 minutes get their equalizer 3-3, then only a good save from Jordan prevents them taking the lead. Luc breaks away from centre ice, rounds one but his shot is kept out. Macca sees a shot saved as MK go in search of the lead and Douglas can t beat the keeper either. Thomas and Jack both clear attempts from Cardiff and Matthew goes on another solo break before again seeing the keeper pull off a fine save. With just over a minute to go in the second Cardiff break through again and this time Jordan has no answer, 3-4.
MK are on the defensive as the third starts but Ryan clears well up to Emma who nudges it on to Luc but his shot is saved. Thomas hits a lovely cross ice pass to Garth as MK build again and Garth finds Dougie but his shot is smothered. Macca is called for tripping and within the minute Cardiff had their two goal lead again, 3-5. To make amends just 3 minutes later, a superb solo break from defence sees Macca, ghost past three players and tuck the puck home, 4-5, 5 minutes to play. Storm turn up the heat and Ryan has a shot saved before Connor battles well in the corner to free the puck, when it does come free, Matthew is on hand to claim the equalizer 5-5 and just over three minutes left. Cardiff defend well and although they concede a penalty near the end, MK s only effort sails over the bar and the game ends 5-5, which probably was a fair result. Storm have a week off now before four games, three away, in March.
