Storm Under 12's
Storm's run comes to an end at Romford
MK Storm U12's continued their run of matches with an away tie at Romford today. Romford have started the season pretty well only losing to
Bracknell
and
Guildford
, so today would be no walk in the park.
From the offset you could see that this was going to be a close game, there were good chances at both ends. MK conceded a penalty but looked more adventurous when short handed, Macca had a shot that went wide, Matt saw one saved and at the other end Ryan got back to tackle well and Jack got a great stick in to prevent a shot. Then Jordan was called into action saving well and Thomas cleared nicely. MK then conceded another Pen but again controlled the game well. Matt put Ryan in but his shot was saved. Romford started to press but Jordan saved again but on 12:16 could do nothing and it was 0-1. The raptors then took a penalty of their own but MK made no impression, once even again however, Luc saw a shot saved and Emma worked hard to clear the puck. Romford did take advantage of their next Pen however and notched number 2 on 16 minutes. Matt and Dougie did put together a nice attack and when cleared Thomas kept the attack going. His pass put Macca in and his shot hit the keepers' helmet. Emma and Ryan kept the pressure up at the next line change but no goal was forthcoming. The first period ended with MK on the back foot and Jack, Thomas and Matt defending well.
The second started with good early pressure from Matt and Macca, Douglas got involved again and saw a shot saved. Then on 22:50 Romford broke away fired on goal, the puck hit Jordan on the helmet but no whistle and the rebound was buried 0-3. This really incensed the team and Matt went on a rampage firing three shots on goal, one and two were saved and three cleared bar. Macca had a go but that too was saved, looks like its gona be one of them days. Matt had other ideas though and fired home from an incredibly tight angle 1-3, 29:40 on the clock, there's still time. Jordan makes an important stop to keep MK in the game and then good pressure from Johnathan on the left wing almost creates a chance. Garth and Ashley skate back hard to stop another attack but then when MK are shorthanded again, Romford tuck in number 4. When MK are penalized just 10 seconds after the last goal we fear the worse but good defending a great save from Jordan lessen the fear. Penalty over and Jack finds Matt on the half way line, he moves past two and shoots on goal, once again the keeper helmet saves the Raptors and the whistle blows. Callum and Thomas mop up the attack and Thomas finds Emma who touches it on nicely to Macca. Romford are defending well though and will not let a shot on goal. Finally though, Macca does get the puck through to Matt, he scores MK's second, but with only just over a minute to go, that's as good as it gets and MK lose 2-4.
You just got the feeling early on that this was not going to be our day, add to that, according to the Romford Manager "this was our best performance of the season". Maybe four games in four weeks is a bit much too but that's hockey and this run hasn't ended, it's Swindon away next week but at least that's on Sunday so an extra days rest.
