Milton Keynes Storm Under 12's

 MK Storm outplayed.

Last week we had a close-ish 0-4 defeat to the leaders Bracknell; this week was a small chance to exact revenge in their barn. I say small because Bracknell U12's don't lose that often especially at home, the last time was over two years ago!!!

The Bumblebees started strongly and Jordan was quickly called upon to turn the puck away. Then Jack, Thomas and Garth were busy repelling attack after attack. Dougie tried to relive the D, he moved nicely forward over halfway and found Ryan; Ryan cut inside but fired over. The response was almost immediate and Bracknell scored just before the 5 minute mark. Encouraged, the bees tried quickly for a second but a great interception from Luc prevented the chance. Garth collected the puck on the next attack in the MK blue zone and moved swiftly from one end to the other before being stopped. Macca was then penalised somewhat harshly and MK were shorthanded for two. A great tackle from Matt and more good work from Thomas kept Bracknell at bay. When Macca rejoined he was in time to take a pass from Matt but hit his shot too high. Ryan got into the action after the line change but his shot was saved, this was good pressure as MK went in search of the equaliser. Matt went on a solo run but the Netminder blocked his shot, Luc then also had a shot saved before Ashley made a break from the centre and fired on goal. The keeper comes out and stops the shot but then drops the puck an inch from the line, a Bracknell defender clears to safety and soon after the buzzer ends the first period.

After a quick exchange of shots, Jordan saving one and Matt seeing his saved, Bracknell took control and notched up 2 in 30 seconds to lead 0-3. This seemed to wake MK up and they started to become more of a threat again, Macca had a shot saved and even when MK were shorthanded they looked the most likely for a while. Matt pushed one wide and Johnathan L did well to keep an attack going, stopping the puck from going out of the blue zone and finding Matt. Jordan makes a great save to keep it at three but can do nothing a minute later as Bracknell hit number 4. A lovely solo break from the MK blue zone from Matt sees him beat the keeper top left, 1-4. Luc had his shot saved as MK went in search of their second and then two more pens saw a spell of 4 on 4. MK looked good in this spell but there was no further scoring before the end of two.

Well unfortunately Bracknell started the third like they did the second and just after a minute were 1-6 up. MK tired and it got worse before it got better, even Jordan making a miraculous double save couldn't halt the slide as numbers 7 and 8 went in. Thomas then broke from the D moved passed a player and fired, the shot was turned away and as it was cleared he picked it up again and finished top left, 2-8. Bracknell got another quickly before Macca did the same to leave the final score at 3-9.

A disappointing result after such a good first period, it just shows that these boys can play. I guess the short bench didn't help, but would less experience players have struggled even more?? One point of note however, MK are the first team to score 3 against Bracknell this season and 17 shots on goal was a much better return that last week. A week off is followed by two home games in February against Chelmsford and Cardiff, lets hope we can get back to winning ways.
