Milton Keynes Storm Under 10s

U10 match report against Peterborough 10th November

MK Storm travelled to Peterborough for their second league game of the season and not only did they come away with a fine victory but secured a perfect shut out for the two netminders, Alex Gadeke and Andrew Clements who spent the whole game being nothing more than spectators as they didn’t have to make a single save.

Despite the 0-12 score line for Storm, credit must go to our defence who simply denied the Phantoms any chance of getting near the MK zone through good pre-emptive positioning and then solid stick work to win the puck. If the first line of defence was breeched, the second line wasn’t. Sam Jackson won MOM for an excellent performance mopping up any danger but Jack Wilson, Ashley Mann, Edward Knaggs, and debutant Alex Gilmore also deserve a mention for similar performances.

In attack MK’s three lines dominated the puck throughout and were miserly in giving up possession and battled hard to win it back when they did.

Andrew Pankhurst opened the scoring in the second shift of the game with a fine wrist shot from far out that flew into the net. Henry Stockwell scored his first Storm goal on the next shift after some tenacious work to win the puck before slotting it home from an acute angle. Harry Kearns scored next for the first of a first line shift brace. Jack Wilson collected the puck once the Phantoms had cleared up ice and with a Phantom in hot pursuit Jack took it behind the net and passed it to Lewis Jobbling around the boards, who flicked it on to Hallden Barnes-Gardner who looked up and saw Harry free in centre ice. A Perfectly aimed pass and Harry took it in his stride to break free and score a fine team goal. From the ensuing face-off, the puck found its way to Jack who skated through the heart of the Phantoms defence and slipped it home for 5-0 and the biggest goal celebration of the day!

John Cawley was next on the scoresheet with a superbly taken goal, shooting on the turn from the left-hand circle. Henry bagged a brace on the next shift following a fine pass from the point by Alex. Harry then followed that up with his second, another breakaway courtesy of Jake Southwood’s pass, finally, Hallden sneaked one in at the back post to finish the scoring for the period and give Storm an unassailable 8-0 lead.

Despite only a four goal period it was still more of the same in the second half as Andrew hit his double with an unassisted goal on the very first shift and despite John giving away a hooking penalty the onslaught on the Phantom’s goal was maintained.

Hallden (who played centre for the second half) was next on the score sheet assisted by Harry. Then Jake scored through the five hole to make it 11-0 and finally Andrew scored his hat-trick with yet another well taken goal.

Overall this was another good win for Storm with all players contributing, although it must be said that Peterborough weren’t the best team that MK will play by any means (they won't be the worst either). But there are signs that this Storm team will be one of the strongest in the league. Even the inexperienced players like Brice Barnes-Gardner, Luke Goody and Daniel Angell showed some very good touches with Luke especially being a touch unfortunate not to score. That said there is still a lot of room for improvement but so far there are visible signs that that is happening which must be pleasing for the coaching staff
