Whether Basingstoke came to Planet Ice intending to play hockey is not entirely clear, but with the match result guaranteed for MK after only 10 minutes, the visitors elected instead to build up their penalty point tally. Mindful of play-off games in the very near future, MK never rose to the bait, and ended the match without a single penalty. In between the visitors’ increasingly regular temper tantrums, MK racked up goals at will. Josh Nicklin benefitted the most with a six-goal haul.

Two significant strikes came from Mitch Starkey, back on the ice from a long-term injury, and a first u18 goal for the ever-improving Robert Pullar.
This was MK Storm’s final league match on home ice and after the game, trophies were presented by the EIHA to recognise their first title success.
The league champions have one final league fixture at Peterborough in a fortnight, which should give them a more meaningful warm-up for their monumental play-off fixtures next month.
